If you would like to help a young person to achieve their aspiration to fly, please consider sponsoring one of our scholarships. We take care of all the administration of the scholarship – from advertising and selection (of awardees) to contracting with the gliding clubs and flying schools to deliver the flying training. For you, as a sponsor it’s ‘hassle-free’ - all we need from you is the funding.
All our scholarships are funded through a registered charity, the Air Pilots Trust (see: https://www.airpilots.org/what-we-do/trusts/apt/). Your donation to the APT to sponsor a scholarship is tax efficient as it may be declared in a UK tax return. If you choose to sponsor a scholarship, we will recognise your philanthropy by awarding ‘your’ scholarship in your name.
The cost of a one-week residential gliding course (which is what each scholarship consists of) is £1,000. To sponsor a gliding scholarship, please email office@airpilots.org to confirm that you wish to be a sponsor. We will then confirm the bank details for the APT for you to make your donation – and (if applicable) can also send you a gift aid form to make that donation go even further.
These provide the training for an individual to gain their PPL – i.e. up to 45 hours of flying training plus all the relevant ground exams. The scholarship is delivered over a three or four month period during the summer. The cost of a PPL scholarship is up to £12,500. As with the gliding scholarships, to sponsor a PPL scholarship, please email office@airpilots.org to confirm that you wish to be a sponsor. We will then confirm the bank details for the APT for you to make your donation – and (if applicable) can also send you a gift aid form to make that donation go even further.
These provide the training for those who wish to become professional flying instructors to gain the requisite rating. The scholarship is delivered over several months during the summer. The cost of a FI(R) scholarship is up to £11,000. As with the gliding scholarships, to sponsor a FI(R) scholarship, please email office@airpilots.org to confirm that you wish to be a sponsor. We will then confirm the bank details for the APT for you to make your donation – and (if applicable) can also send you a gift aid form to make that donation go even further.
